Mattie Woods Obituary

Mattie Frances Woods, a nurturing soul cherished by an extensive family and a beacon of warmth and laughter within her community, completed her earthly journey on September 29, 2025, in Lexington, KY, enveloped by the love of her family. Born on July 26, 1940, in Paris, KY, Mattie was the matriarch of a vibrant and loving family. Her zest for life and nurturing nature extended not just to her family, but to all who crossed her path.

Mattie's laughter echoed down the halls of Bourbon General Hospital, where she spent countless hours as a dedicated nurses aid and left to become a beloved hairdresser, even off duty, her care for others was undeniable, a true testament to her lifelong commitment to her Christian faith at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Life wasn't all work though; Mattie was a die-hard Louisville Cardinal Basketball fan, undoubtedly the team's 'sixth man' from the comfort of her living room. Her knitting needles clicked away to the beat of her favorite games, each stitch weaving her love into cozy, tangible memories. Mattie's passion for life was evident in her fondness for shopping and the joy she found in the simple pleasure of spending time with family and friends.

Mattie leaves behind a legacy of love with her five children, Michael, Paul, Robert "RuRu," Terry, and Michelle Woods. She was a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren, Delanna, Donielle, Lashelle, Paul Jr., Adam, Serenity, Kameron, Damon, and Devon Woods, and her adoring great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Gloria Allen, Elenore McKee and Betty Jo Warren, along with a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special friends Gwendolyn Davis, Barbara Clark and Joanie Parker, will deeply miss her presence.

Reunited in Heaven with her parents, Eddie Woods, Ethel Rawlins Young, William L. Young, Thomas "Peter Rabbit" Buckner and Mary Louise Buckner; two sons, Tommy "Money" and Steven Woods and her sisters, Anna Holman, Mary A. Brooks, and Ruby McKee, we imagine a joyful gathering beyond the stars.

In the wake of her departure, Mattie's family finds comfort in recollections of her laughter and the loving, funny, and friendly spirit that defined her presence among us. Let us honor Mattie's memory by embodying her kindness, cherishing our loved ones, and making each moment count, just as she did throughout her memorable life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday October 7, 2025, by Rev. Dr. Morgan Gilkey and Rev. Faye Gross at the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1117 High St, Paris, KY. Burial to follow in the Evergreen Memory Gardens, Paris, KY.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM Tuesday October 7, 2025, until the hour of service at the church.

The funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home Chapel, 1120 Main Street, Paris, KY. The online guestbook is at www.Lusk-McFarland.com and a 24-hour funeral information line can be reached by calling 859-987-4387.
