Jo Ann Austin, 82, of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Jo Ann was born on August 18, 1942, in Coweta, Oklahoma, and lived a life full of joy, laughter, and cherished memories. A devoted grandmother, Jo Ann's greatest joy was spending time with her beloved grandchildren and family. Her presence brought warmth and love to every gathering, and her stories and laughter will be dearly missed. Jo Ann had a vibrant personality and a wide range of interests. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV series, Charmed and Dawson's Creek, as well as indulging in thrilling scary movies. She loved being outdoors, especially at the lake, where she found peace walking along the water's edge. At home, she took pride in tending to her yard, creating a beautiful space that reflected her care and dedication. Known for her sense of style and grace, Jo Ann delighted in doing her hair and makeup, always presenting herself with a touch of elegance. Her memory will be cherished by her family and friends, who were inspired by her love, strength, and vivacious spirit. Jo Ann’s legacy of love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., January 3, 2025, at Shipman’s Funeral Home in Pryor with JJ Ogden officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery with Rick Swinney, Ray Swinney, Chris Austin, Gage Austin, Cody Miller, and Aden Taylor serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., January 2, 2025, at Shipman’s Funeral Home in Pryor. Jo Ann is survived by her son, Brian Austin and wife Michelle of Foyil, Oklahoma; daughters, Jerri Swinney of Foyil, Oklahoma, Terri Swaggart and husband Benjamin of Hermiston, Oregon, Kathleen Austin of Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Angela Austin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Austin, and parents, Ervin and Ethel McFarland.
