Jo Ann Basore, a cherished matriarch and beacon of warmth in her community, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, in Skiatook, Oklahoma.
Born on January 10, 1938, in Inola, Oklahoma, to Ray and Thelma Lowther, Jo Ann grew into a woman of strength, kindness, and creativity, treasuring the simple joys of life. Jo Ann's journey began in the small town of Inola, where she received her education and planted the seeds of a life marked by dedication and love. She married the love of her life, Raymond Leroy Basore, on July 31, 1954, in Claremore, Oklahoma. Their union was a testament to enduring love, spanning an impressive 70 years. Together, they created a loving home in Inola, and later in Skiatook, where they raised their family and built countless memories. A devoted homemaker, Jo Ann later shared her talents with the world through her work. She spent 17 years with Munsingwear and 30 years as a skilled seamstress in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Her artistic touch and meticulous craftsmanship were not only evident in her professional life but also in her personal passions. Jo Ann adored sewing and quilting, activities through which she expressed her creativity and love for her family. Her gardens were a testament to her nurturing spirit, with every flower and plant carefully tended to, reflecting the beauty and care she brought to every aspect of her life. Jo Ann's involvement with the Inola Roundup Club showcased her commitment to community and her love for the traditions of her hometown. Her faith was an integral part of her essence, and she served with grace as a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where her presence will be profoundly missed.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Thelma Lowther, her brother, Richard, and her grandson, Steve Estes. Her family mourns her loss while celebrating the profound impact she had on their lives and the lives of all who knew her.
Her legacy is carried on by her beloved husband, Raymond Basore, and their three daughters, Debbie Miller, Cindy Greene, and Linda Estes. Jo Ann was the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Rikki, Larry, Jessica, Kristy, Kyle, Derek, and Sarah, and she delighted in the lives of her fourteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Jo Ann's sisters, Sharon McDaniel and Kay O'Neal, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends, also survive her. They will all hold dear the memory of her gentle spirit and loving heart.
Jo Ann Basore lived a life rich in love, work, and service. Her hands, always busy, were a symbol of her tireless dedication to her family and her craft. The lessons she imparted through her actions and the love she shared so generously will resonate through generations.
