Harry E. Basore Jr.

Harry E. Basore Jr., 82, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, after years of battling Parkinson's disease.

Born on September 23, 1943, in Harrisburg to Evelyn and Harry E. Basore Sr., Harry came into the world while his father was serving in the Army. He grew up in Harrisburg and graduated from John Harris High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1960 to 1964.

After his military service, Harry built a steady career with Rite Aid, retiring in 2001. He later made his home in Oriskany, where he served as Scoutmaster of Troop 39 for ten years, leading young men on camping trips, teaching practical outdoor skills, and guiding them through the Adirondack Mountains.

Outside of work and Scouting, Harry was most at home in the woods. He hunted and fished nearly every weekend, usually with the same circle of friends he had kept for years. Woodworking filled the quieter hours at home, a hobby he returned to throughout his life. In his final years, Parkinson's disease gradually took those things from him, though he fought it for a long time before it won.

Harry is survived by his wife, Janice Basore; his son, Lance Knight; and his grandchildren, Joshua and Michael Knight of Liverpool, Ryan Knight of Oswego, and Ashley and Rhianna Knight of Woodstock, Georgia. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Knight of Argentina. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Marrow, Sandra Ehlman, and Josephine Henry.

He spent his years working and making his way through the woods, living on his own terms and leaving behind people who loved him.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 28th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Dimbleby Funeral Homes, Inc., 40 Main Street, Whitesboro, NY 13492.
