After retiring from farming, they moved to the Blue Bayou area, where Jo Ellen began her career at Walmart. She started in the shoe department, later moved to jewelry, and spent her last several years greeting customers with her beautiful smile. Throughout her nearly 25 years of employment, she enjoyed meeting many people and making countless friends. Additionally, Jo Ellen was an active member of Cross Point Cowboy Church. She truly cherished her work and church families.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jo Ellen was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Halcombe Blackwood, and her brother-in-law, Austin Blackwood.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons: Tony Chesshir (Julie) and Steve Chesshir (Cleo), both of Nashville; two grandchildren: Heath Chesshir (Sarah) and Amber Billings (Dalton), both of Nashville; three additional grandchildren: Braden Rather, Peyton Rather, and Alyssa Rather; five great-grandsons: Wyatt Chesshir, Brett Chesshir, Reed Chesshir, Wes Billings, and Wylee Billings (due in February); one brother: Hayes Halcombe (Caroline) of Dierks, AR; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends who affectionately called her “Mamaw.”
A handwritten letter found in her home stated, “My family made my life.”
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Cross Point Cowboy Church near Nashville.
