Mrs. Jo Ellen Upchurch

UPCHURCH, Mrs. JoEllen - Age 68, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 AM Thursday, July 31, 2025, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Patrick Sanders II, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home 10:30 AM Thursday. Mrs. Upchurch will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Jo Ellen Upchurch was born September 24, 1956, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Samuel and Myrtis Taylor. Jo Ellen was a resident of Flint and attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was a Flint Northern High School Viking. Jo Ellen was employed at General Motors Corporation where she retired after 29 years of service. She enjoyed playing Solitaire, doing Crossword Puzzles, watching lots of TV and playing Dominos. Jo Ellen also enjoyed cooking/baking, fishing, and parties with family and friends. Mrs. Jo Ellen Upchurch leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Shameka Upchurch; 2 sons, Laron Taylor, both of Flint and Samuel (Sharon) Upchurch of Phoenix, AZ; step-daughter, Faye Upchurch of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Aries Upchurch, Samuel Upchurch, Mya Upchurch, Destiny Williams, all of Flint and Samarr Upchurch of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Faye Bolton of Flint; sisters-in-law, Tyna Taylor of Georgia and Debra Leverette; 6 nieces, Cynthia Campbell, Aniska Brown, Myrtis Hutchinson, Sparkle Williams, Quincy Bishop and Keiara Young; 9 nephews, Michael White, Rickey White, Darryl Taylor, Bobby Bishop, Toine Bishop, Ferris Bishop, Ramon Bishop, Justian Crowder and Dennis Taylor Jr.; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Crystal Manns and Patricia Rushing. Mrs. Upchurch was preceded in death by her husband, Sammy Lee Upchurch; parents, Samuel and Myrtis Taylor; sisters, Jewel White and Sammie Taylor; brothers, Willie Taylor and Dennis Taylor; aunts, Emma Lee Hill, Sylvia Ash, Genevia Taylor, Dottie Bee Davis and Odessa Collins; and uncle, Houston Taylor.
