Joan "Joann" Barrett

Joan "Joann" Barrett, 80 of Westminster, MD passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025.
Born on February 3, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland, Joan was the daughter of the late Anthony Charles and Nancy Ann (Richter) Maranto. Joan is also predeceased by husband, David Barrett and son, Arthur "Chuck" Hetrick (survived by Kathy).
Joan is survived by her daughters Amy Funk (Larry) of Taneytown, MD and Tracey Blair (Michael) of Monkton, MD. Cherished grandmother of Benjamin Hetrick (Jennifer), Kimberly Hetrick (fiancé Adam), Tammy Geiman (Lucas), Katherine and Erin Blair. Proud great grandmother to Nora Hetrick and Avery Geiman. Sister to Tony Maranto (Donna) of Westminster, CA as well as many nieces and nephews.
Prior to her recent move to MD, Joan lived in Southern PA for many years. Many of those years were spent working as a bank teller and later at the front desk at the Shrewsbury YMCA. She spent her free time golfing, playing cards and meeting friends for lunch, but especially loved spending time with her family. As Joan, "Mom", "Grandmom/Gram" Aunt, "Sis" and friend, leaves us with so many wonderful memories to hold onto, there are quite a few that will forever stand out in our hearts. From her mini-chocolate chip cookies that she brought to every gathering, to thoughtful cards and phone calls for every birthday and special occasion. How she always found a special place for every knickknack and her meticulous nature. The way she would always show up early to every family gathering and the joy that being with her family and friends brought her.
While the passing of Joan has left a hole missing in the lives of many, there is so much to be grateful for in having her be a huge part of our lives.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held at a later date.
