Joan Whitten Blackstone, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, from complications of Parkinson's.
Born July 6, 1940, in Brunswick, ME, she was the daughter of the late Owen Whitten Jr. and Clara Morang Whitten. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years Harold Blackstone and her siblings Pam, Eleanor, and Owen “Butch”. Joan grew up in Freeport, graduating from Freeport HS. She worked as a CNA and Admin Assistant at Mt Katahdin Nursing Home in Millinocket, ME. After receiving her BSBA from Husson College, Joan worked as an Executive Secretary with Supervalue.
While in Maine, Joan enjoyed ceramics, was an avid square dancer with her husband, and was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star at Nollesemic Lodge #205 in Millinocket, ME. Joan lived in North Yarmouth, ME and Atkinson, NH before retiring with her husband to Port Charlotte, FL. There she volunteered in the local Republican party of Punta Gorda. She is survived by siblings Carol, Pauline, and Kenneth, as well as her children Scott Blackstone, Lori Blackstone, and Bruce Blackstone with his wife Kate; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
A graveside burial will be held in the spring of 2026 at Elmwood Cemetery Pownal, ME. Cremation services are under the care of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, Rochester, N.H.
