JoAn Brandenburgh, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in her hometown of Topeka, where she was born on July 28, 1931. JoAn’s life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout her journey.
A woman of remarkable talent and spirit, JoAn enjoyed a fulfilling career spanning several jobs throughout her life. She found joy working at the Glascow Lamp and Antiques Shop and Skinners Nursery. Her passion for nurturing not only plants but also the lives of those around her was a hallmark of her character. However, her most significant role was as a devoted homemaker, where her love for baking and cooking shone brightly. JoAn was renowned for her pecan and cinnamon rolls, famous Christmas candies, and homemade noodles, delighting family and friends alike with her culinary creations.
JoAn was a proud graduate of Seaman Rural High School, class of 1949. Her education was the foundation of a lifelong commitment to learning and sharing kindness. A member of Seaman Congregational Church, she actively participated in the Women's Fellowship and found fellowship in a local coffee group where her witty humor and simple approach to life brightened every gathering.
Her interests were diverse; JoAn had a special affinity for collecting angels, and her love for adventure was evident in her passion for riding her bike. Remarkably, JoAn taught water aerobics at the North YMCA until the tender age of 82, embodying a spirit of vitality and joy even though she never learned to swim.
Family was the cornerstone of JoAn's life. She leaves behind her loving children: Betty Seachord, Steve (Murel) Brandenburgh, Nancy (Art) Kuehler, and Wes (Deanna) Brandenburgh. Her grandchildren Carie Rush, Greg Seachord, Tammy Ryan, Shelby Kuehler, Shaylon Kuehler, Samuel Brandenburgh, and Kayla Simonsen were sources of endless joy and pride for her. Moreover, she was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom meant the world to her.
JoAn was predeceased by her husband, Oscar Brandenburgh, whom she married in Topeka on June 11, 1949, and who passed away on July 27, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert Stover and Lillian (Chrisman) Stover, and her siblings Freida, Charlie, Joe, and Wayne.
The memory of JoAn Brandenburgh will be celebrated through a funeral service on November 8, 2025, at Parker-Price & Davidson, in Topeka, Kansas. Beginning at 10:00 AM, the service will honor a life well-lived, filled with warmth, humor, and an unwavering love for family and community.
JoAn’s legacy of kindness, laughter, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her dearly. She will be missed beyond measure, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories shared amongst family and friends.
