Joan M. Burke passed away peacefully at The
Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers Massachusetts on December 9, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 24th 1940 in Beverly Massachusetts along with her twin sister, June Margerie Crampsey, to Lois (Greenough) Coffill and Ernest M. Crampsey. Joan was raised by her loving mother and stepfather Norman E. Coffill Sr. whom she adored and was better known as "Tex". Joan's life was a testament to her enduring wisdom, loving nature, and Christian faith.
Joan and her husband, John F. Burke Jr. which many called Jack spent 27 years in Rowley. They took great pride in raising their two children John and Jill. While in Rowley they raised and showed registered quarter horses which the whole family was a great part of.
After leaving Rowley, Jack and Joan built a beautiful home on Plum Island, where they lived for 22 years and the beach was their backyard. Joan enjoyed soaking up the sun while Jack would enjoy the water with a jet ski or a fishing pole. After Jack's passing in 2016 Joan moved to Ipswich to be close to all her dearest friends.
Joan dedicated most of her professional life to the banking industry in which she later retired as the Vice President of Lending at the Institution for Savings in Ipswich. Joan's commitment to her community was paralleled by her deep involvement in various committees and associations. It was the same sense of responsibility and love that made her an admired figure in both her professional and personal life. Joan loved to travel to Bermuda with her loving friends Jim and Judy for over 25 years. Bermuda became a cherished tradition for the three of them. A testament to her love for adventure and the serenity of the sea. Joan also loved to travel with her dear friend Peg. Joan visited many countries with Italy and Ireland being amongst her favorites. She found a deep connection with their cultures, history and vibrant landscapes. Whether it was a gentle trot on her horse or the nostalgic hum of her scooter, Joan embraced every moment with an unparalleled zest for life.
Joan will be remembered for the beautiful blend of strength and gentleness that she embodied. She was a guiding light to many, a person whose actions and character were in a harmonious alignment with the words she spoke. Her passing leaves behind a void that will be felt deeply but the memory of her faith-filled spirit, words of wisdom and loving heart will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know her.
