Eldridge Linwood Leavitt, 91, 9/7/1934 -12/8/2025. Eldridge Leavitt, affectionately known to many as "Eddie Clam" passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 8, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in
Ipswich, MA, to the late Charles Malcolm and Floris Leola (Swicker) Leavitt, Eldridge was raised in Rowley where he lived the majority of his life before spending his later years in
Salisbury, MA.
Eldridge proudly served his country as a member of the United States Naval Reserve and later in the United States Air Force as a C-130 mechanic during the 1950's. His service was a meaningful part of his life, and he always carried deep respect for service. He served for 30 years with the Rowley Fire Department as a volunteer, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He was also a stone mason, plumber, "MacGyver", and later owned and operated Leavitt Shellfish in
Rowley, MA.
He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" Leavitt, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2017. He is survived by his daughter Lori Brasseur and husband Dale of Salisbury, daughter Pam LaPrell and husband Jim of Kingston, NH., and son Jim Leavitt and wife Tracy of Salisbury.
Forever cherished as Dad, Papa, and Koo-Koo Papa, Eldridge leaves behind his loving grandchildren Kevin Brasseur, Keith Brasseur, Leah Hill, Hayden Harrington, Haylie Savoy, and Jordan Leavitt along with great grandchildren Addison, Jackson, and Axel Brasseur, Brielle and Chase Savoy, and Isaac and Ophelia Brasseur. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. Eldridge was predeceased by his brothers Malcolm "Lionel", Ashley, and Audrey Leavitt and his sister Ethel Gross.
The family would also like to acknowledge Bailey Johnson for her genuine and loving care for Eldridge daily for the last 4 years along with her children and his best buddies Malcolm and Aspen who made him smile and kept him entertained.
Known for his kind, gentle, and loving nature, Eldridge brought joy and light to his many family members and friends, fortunate enough to be a part of his life. He appreciated simple pleasures, good conversations, classic country music, sky blue pink skies, his famous mixed drink known to all as his "Hootah", and his constant companion his beloved chihuahua Bandit. His warmth, humor, and endless love will be remembered always. Above all Eldridge loved his family deeply and they loved him just as deeply in return. His presence, his smile, and his generous heart will be greatly missed by all.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Service at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Rowley Burial Ground.
