Phyllis Kelley Leavitt

Presque Isle: Phyllis Cronkite Kelley Leavitt 99, passed away peacefully February 28, 2026 at her home. She was born October 8, 1926 in Fort Fairfield to Samuel and Effie (Johnson) Cronkite.

Phyllis graduated from Fort Fairfield High School class of 1944. She attended Maine School of Commerce (now Husson) in Bangor. She was married to Darrol Kelly and they had two children, Darrol Jr. and Linda Jo Kelly. She was a member of Grant Memorial United Methodist Church serving on several committees, 50 year member of Lunar Chapter #126 Eastern Star, member of afternoon bowling league and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, bird hunting and a good game of 45. She worked for several companies retiring after 20 years as an administrative secretary in Human Resources at Northern Light AR Gould hospital and volunteered there for 18 years.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased her first husband Darrol Kelly, son Darrol Jr., her daughter Linda Armstrong and her second husband Merritt Leavitt, seven brothers Cecil, Maurice, Lenwood, Loomis, Lawrence, Joe and Carvell Cronkite, four sisters; Mildred Clark, Madeline Gagnon, Beryl Parker, and Lois Fowler.

She is survived by her son in law Brett Armstrong of Bangor, three stepchildren Rick (Sue), Kevin (Jen), Frank (Denise) Leavitt. Six grandchildren; Rae Ann Armstrong, Chad (Mary Ellen), Adam (Amy), Nason (Jennifer), Ryan (Cindy) and Jarvis (Amy) Kelly, five step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and good friends Betty Ryder, and Linda Kennedy Smith.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Saturday March 7, 2026, at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church Fleetwood Street Presque Isle. Spring interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery.
