SWOYERSVILLE — Joan M. Chisarick, 84, a resident of Swoyersville, went to the Lord on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, following a brief illness. Her loving husband is Joseph J. Chisarick. Together, Joseph and Joan celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past September.
Born on Nov. 1, 1940, in Sunbury, Joan was the only child born to the late John F. Balutis and Anna M. Visniauckas Balutis. Raised in the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, Joan was a graduate of G.A.R. Memorial High School, Class of 1958.
A devoted homemaker most of her life, Joan lovingly tended to the daily needs of her family. After raising her children, she went on to further her education at Wilkes College, now Wilkes University, where in 1987 she was a magna cum laude graduate, attaining her bachelor of fine arts degree.
Joan was a woman of faith who prayed fervently, especially for her family. She was a member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, Swoyersville, holding membership with its Altar and Rosary Society. Active within her church, Joan always volunteered her time to assist with church functions and fundraisers.
A talented artist, Joan had a passion for art her entire life. Having an appreciation and skill with several forms of art, Joan's true love was painting and pastels. She was the recipient of countless awards and accolades for her pieces throughout the years. She was a longtime member and proponent of the Wyoming Valley Art League, holding many offices, most notably serving as its past president.
Joan's family will remember her love for reading; her amazing cooking skills; her zest for always being dressed to the nines; and, above all, for the abounding love and devotion she had for each of them.
In addition to her parents, John and Anna Balutis, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved son, David M. Chisarick, who passed away on Sept. 28, 1996.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph; and their two devoted children: Dan Chisarick, Philadelphia; and Jennifer Jones and her husband, Mike, Richlands, N.C.; her adored grandson, Alex Jones, Richlands, N.C.; as well as several cousins and their families; especially Jane D'Alessandro and Carla Vincent.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by an office of Christian Burial with divine liturgy to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church, 271 Tripp Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father Andrii Dumnych, her pastor, celebrating.
Interment with the rite of committal will follow in the Saint Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Family and friends are invited to attend Joan's viewing which will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Panachida services will be celebrated on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. by the Reverend Father Andrii Dumnych. The Altar and Rosary Society of Saint Nicholas Church will recite the rosary for the repose of Joan's soul on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the church.
