Joan Francina Cumberbatch

A woman of strength. A woman of love. A woman of light.

Born in Hillaby, St. Andrew, Barbados, Joan made her home in White Plains, New York, where she raised her family and touched countless lives. She was the beloved daughter of the late Bonita Cumberbatch and Henry Gill. The devoted mother of Jamal Cumberbatch, cherished grandmother of Aidan and Avery Cumberbatch, mother-in-law of Laurie Cumberbatch, and supportive partner of Steve Prescod.

She was the sister of Livingstone Harvey, Euletha Streeks, the late Eureka Cumberbatch and Ruth Gill; and a much-loved granddaughter of the late Rose Cumberbatch. Joan was also a beloved niece of Mark & Eudine Broome, Ernesta Jordan, Orville Cumberbatch, and the late Ruth, Beresford, Vere, James, and Delerita. Aunt to Pat Gill, Jason Harvey and Jonelle Johnson.

Her life was made richer by her many cousins-including Irene, St. Elmo, Shari, Roger, Ryan, Raymond, Rohan, Nadine, Everton, Alison, Keith, Stephen, Peter, Anthony, Chesterfield, Pauline, Janelle, Fay, Marcus, Marvin, and the late Julie and Louis Jordan.

A relative of the Maynard, Bowen, Slocombe, and Cumberbatch families. She will be fondly remembered by her circle of friend including Fabian Broome, Robert Hinds, Janice Jones, Sandra Fagan, Ricky Briggs, Patrick, Adina, Shirley, and the dedicated staff of the Marriott White Plains, among many others.

Joan's light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
