Joan Mary Delphia

Joan Mary (Boczar) Delphia, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the age of 73. Known for her kindness, dedication, selflessness and boundless love, Joan leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Joan's generosity and compassion touched the lives of many, and her absence will be deeply felt in the lives of everyone she touched. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Adolphe J. and Helen (Woytanis) Boczar, she was raised in Windsor, returned to raise her family, and lived there for 39 years. Joan graduated from the Chaffee School in 1969, Boston College in 1973, and received her Masters degree from Trinity College in 1977. She was a beloved middle school math teacher for over 20 years before returning to work at Travelers Insurance Company for 25 years. In her professional life, Joan exemplified dedication and hard work. Her colleagues admired her for her work ethic, her integrity, and her unwavering commitment to everyone around her. Joan dedicated her life to her family, always putting their needs before her own. Her warm and nurturing spirit created a home filled with love, laughter, support, and cherished memories. As a grandmother, Joan was a beacon of love, joy and wisdom. Her granddaughter, Linnea Grace, adored her hugs, and the special memories they created on their trips together as well as on our annual family vacation to Cape Cod. She took immense pride in her achievements and was always there to celebrate her milestones and successes. She leaves her devoted husband of 51 years, Larry W. Delphia; her son Christopher Delphia of Redlands, CA; her daughter Alexandra (Delphia) Wittner and husband Mark of Southington; her granddaughter Linnea Grace Wittner; her brother-in-law David Story; her sister-in-law Patricia Griswold; her sister-in-law Kathy Passafiume and her husband Jack. Her nieces and nephew, Juliana Caroline Story, Christine Ahearn and her husband John, Ashley Griswold, Laurie Beebe and her husband Brian; Tammy Hassil and her husband Paul; John Passafiume and his wife Melissa. Joan was predeceased by her sister, Julie Ann Story. Her family will receive friends Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 2-5 pm at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor. Family and friends may gather Monday, June 24, 2024, at 10 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad Street, Windsor, CT 06095. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Joan's honor.
