Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - TopekaIt is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joan Rodgers Dietz who left us peacefully at the age of 100, on September 29, 2025.
Born on August 27, 1925 in Ottawa, Kansas. Joan was a woman of markable grace, resilience, positivity, and kindness. She lived a life full of love, purpose, and strength.
Joan built a family and a community where she was a cherished matriarch, friend, and neighbor. Her unwavering optimism and warmth touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.
Joan married her show business sweetheart, Frederick William Dietz, and together they raised two children. She was a devoted mother, and grandmother, and she was a constant positive influence in the lives of her children and their families. Her wisdom, generosity, and laughter will forever be remembered by those fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her family, Joan had a deep love for her community. She was a dedicated volunteer for over 70 years, working with foster grandparents, Hospice, and Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) Various organizations, especially those focused on helping families and patients. Her commitment to serving others left an indelible mark on friends loved ones.
Joan’s passions were many, including music, volunteering, putt putt golf, cards, and the WII fit. She had an incredible knack for bringing a positive Aire in the face of adversity which she proudly shared with family and friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, telling stories of her childhood and her life experiences, which were always met with fascination and admiration.
Joan was predeceased by her mother Leone and father Roy Sr. and her brother Roy Jr., and husband, Frederick. She is survived by her daughter, Sherri and husband Wayne Dedloff of Lawrence Kansas; son David Dietz and wife Rhonda of Boynton Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Hunter Dedloff, Logan Dedloff, Eric (Shelly Stanton), Jordan Pendergraft, Angelina Dietz, Savannah Dietz, Anthony Dietz, and Christian Dietz; and her great- grandchildren, Chase (Stanton), Kori (Pendergraft), and Easton (Pendergraft). She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on October 13th, 2025 at 11:00AM at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Rd, Topeka, KS 66611.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Advent Health, an organization close to Joan’s heart.
Joan’s legacy will live on in the love she gave so freely and the countless lives she touched over her century-long journey. She may be gone from this world, but she will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Joan. You lived a full and beautiful life, and you will always be in our hearts.
