Joan M. Dobbels-Morris, 78, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Toulon Health Care, Toulon, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 27th, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Cambridge. Father Ghislain Inai will officiate. Burial will be in the Bishop Hill Cemetery, Bishop Hill, Illinois. Visitation will be one hour prior the Mass at the church. Memorial may be made to Cambridge Academic Foundation. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Joan Mary Dobbels was born November 20, 1945, in Geneseo, the daughter of Alfred A. and Mary H. Buyck Dobbels. She was educated in Cambridge school and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1963. Joan then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb and received her Bachelor's Degree in Spanish. She moved to the Philippines Island after graduation and began teaching Spanish at a military base where she met her future husband. Her marriage to Curt Morris took place on November 25, 1981 in the Philippines. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2011.
After their marriage, the couple moved to Panama City, Florida, where she continued to teach and also received her Master's Degree in French. Joan took groups of students on trips to France. She also enjoyed sailing with her husband in the Gulf of Mexico.
Those surviving are step-son, Christopher (Vesna) Morris and step-daughter, Pam (Randy) Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Deb Dobbels and Donald and Kathy Dobbels, all of Cambridge; sisters-in-law, Donna Jean, Leona, Joyce, and Carol; several step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, parents, and five brothers, Robert, Gilbert, Alfred Jr., Alvin, and James preceded her in death.
