We are saddened for this day. We have lost our Mom. The woman who nurtured us, cared for us and prayed for us. We have learned from her selfless nature and good values. Our Mom, Joan Dobberstein, 83, of Carleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Fountain View of Monroe.
Our parents were married on October 22, 1960. Mom and Dad made their home in Carleton where they celebrated 58 years together with their kids, their grandkids, and their great-grandchildren. Mom gave her life, time and her love to all of us. Joan was proceeded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents Fred and Imelda Cousino, and her sister Jeanne Complo.
It brought our Mom great joy to be involved in her church, Divine Grace Parish, St. Catherine's Guild, the Christian Mother's Altar Society, the Father and son breakfast, and the annual Salad luncheon. She was an amazing mother, homemaker, daughter, sister, and friend. She worked side by side with our Dad running the family farm. Mom enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Some of her favorite trips included visiting Hawaii, Alaska, road trips around Michigan, and an occasional trip to the casino. Our Mom was thoughtful and had a kind soul. She donated to lots of charities, prayed for every person in need and sent cards to make others feel better. We will always remember the love our Mom had for her family and others. She was always quick to forgive, give a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
To keep and cherish Mom's memory, she leaves behind two sons, Joseph (Mary) Dobberstein of Monroe, David Dobberstein of Carleton, and a daughter, Michele (Darryl) Sims of Carleton, three grandsons Brent (Heather) Sims, Eric Sims both of Carleton, Kyle Sims of Chicago, three great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Brody, and Elizabeth Sims, two sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Dobberstein and Susan Dobberstein.
Please join us as we pray for courage and peace. Help fill our spirits with strength and hope. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe with the Rosary at 4 p.m. Mom will lie instate Wednesday May 21, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Divine Grace Parish, Carleton Campus. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow where Joan will rest in peace next to her beloved husband, Bill in St. Patrick Cemetery, Carleton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Capuchin Kitchen of Detroit or consider planting something beautiful in your garden in her memory.

Dearest family of such a beautiful soul, It has been many years since I last saw Joan and Jean. I am so sorry for your loss. We were young ladies having a blast with life. I lost track of her when I moved to Texas. Our lives took different turns, but I have never had a negative thought or word about your mom. It was just a few days ago, I thought about her. Please know this, there are no doubts about where she is today. Just think, she is in Paradise with the Lord of Lords! I pray you rest in this and you will see her and your dad together. Prayers to comfort all of you.
