Joan Marie Stanley Eanes

May 11, 1932 - March 12, 2025

Joan Marie Stanley Eanes, 92, of Critz, VA, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the home of her daughters. She was born on May 11, 1932, in Martinsville, VA to the late Theressa Verna Harris Stanley and Sam Edward Stanley. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years and 10 months, Thomas Henry (Pete) Eanes. Also preceded in death were siblings: Samuel Edward (Ed) Stanley, Jr., John Donald (Donnie) Stanley, and Sonja Kay Stanley Rodgers. Joan was the wife of a career Air Force Veteran. She traveled the world with him and their four daughters. She always said she felt fortunate to have lived her life as the spouse of a military man and had been able to travel the world. After his retirement from the Air Force, they settled in Greensboro, NC, where she worked as an Office Manager at Motor Bearings & Parts. In 1997, they relocated to Critz, VA, where they enjoyed their retirement. Joan was an accomplished seamstress. She made her daughters clothes throughout their childhood. After moving to Critz, she became a passionate quilter and spent many pleasant years with fellow quilters at the Reynolds Homestead. She made many quilts for her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her family was her life. She was always honest, fair, and trustworthy. She was the definition of integrity. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Lee Eanes Giles (Davis Leroy "Pete"), Paula Kay Eanes, Melanie Hope Eanes Campbell (James Stuart), Lorie Dawn Eanes Johannessen (Raymond Ole); grandchildren: Joshua David and Michael Sean Giles, Jeffrey Scott and Brandon Ray Blackwood, Jennifer Lee Johannessen Johnson, April Laine Peeden Nickell, Erik Nathaniel Johannessen, Kacie Rae Johannessen Thornton; and sixteen great- grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, VA on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lee Ashley officiating.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Joan was a very lovely lady and will be missed. She was heart broken over losing her love your Dad and wanted to join him. Our parents are all together now enjoying old stories of our April Lane days in Greensboro. I know I have many great memories especially with you Lorie. Our HS days at NE. Our condolences to you all. I love each one of you and will be praying for the days, weeks, months ahead. Love,
