Joan Irene Efird
May 30, 1935 – April 9, 2025
Joan Irene Efird passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, and was welcomed into the arms of her Savior. Born on May 30, 1935, in England, Joan lived a full and faithful life rooted deeply in her Christian beliefs. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Efird, her parents, Joseph and Irene Dougal, and her siblings, Jean, Joseph, Christopher, and Raymond.
She is survived by her loving children: Steve Efird, Andy (Rebecca) Efird, Lance (Elaina) Efird, and Debbie (Don) Whitbey. Her legacy also lives on through 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren-each one a cherished blessing.
Joan met Bob, a U.S. Army serviceman stationed at RAF Sculthorpe Military Airbase in Sculthorpe, England. She immigrated to the United States on May 28, 1954, through Ellis Island, New York, and just three days later, the two were married in York County, South Carolina, on their way to Texas to begin their life together.
As a young war bride settling in Lake Jackson, Texas, Joan founded the Brazoria County Transatlantic Bride Association-fondly known as "The British Club" by her children-creating a community for fellow women who had crossed oceans for love and new beginnings.
A devoted caregiver at heart, Joan operated an in-home daycare for 47 years, nurturing and shaping the lives of countless children, including many from second-generation families. Her dedication to these children became a cornerstone of her life's work.
Joan found joy in the simple pleasures-sewing, square dancing, baking, and watching her favorite British television shows. She had a deep love for collecting teapots, amassing a charming collection of over 200. Above all, she delighted in spoiling her grandchildren and spending time with her ever-growing family.
Joan's life was one of purpose, service, and faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and grace, and the assurance that she is now rejoicing in the eternal peace of her heavenly home with a warm cup of tea.
