JOAN E. GETGEN

1942 - 2024

Joan E. Getgen, 81, of Wellsboro, passed away at The Green Home on Thursday August 29, 2024, one day before her 82nd birthday, surrounded by loving family.
She was born August 30, 1942, in Wellsboro and was the first baby born at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, the daughter of Lewis and Lenora "Patsy" (Patt) Bowers. Joan was the wife of Eugene D. Getgen and enjoyed life together through the years.
Joan retired from the Wellsboro Area School District and enjoyed retirement with her husband. Joan also enjoyed camping, sewing, making hand-loomed rugs and most especially, family gatherings where her cooking was greatly enjoyed.
Joan was a devout Catholic and attended St. Peter's Catholic Church faithfully and was committed to volunteering with social dinners and fundraising.
Joan is survived by sons: Steve (Sue) Getgen of Wellsboro, Mike (Linda) Getgen of Blossburg, and Dave (Polly) Getgen of Wellsboro; daughters: Nora (Craig) Demusz of Wellsboro, and Glenda (Randy) Hart of Wellsboro; brother: Lewis (Cindy) Bowers of Wellsboro; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and close cousins; and dear friend, Nina Mae Copley.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband: Eugene Getgen; parents; sisters: Sheila Graham and Sarah Husted; son: Lewis "Chuck" Getgen; and daughter: Jean Marie Getgen.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Joan's life from 9 - 9:45 a.m. Thursday September 5, at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, and her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday September 5, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Wellsboro.
