Joan Hilinski, age 82, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025, with her brother Edward and sister-in-law Joann by her side. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Frances Hilinski She is survived by her brother Edward (Joann), nieces Jennifer Hilinski (David Khanlian), Katie Hilinski, Theresa Jelderks (Andy) and grand nephews Stanley Khanlian, Bruce Khanlian, Ziggie Hilinski, Kayceon Hilinski and grand nieces Saylah Jelderks, Eden Rose Jelderks.
Joan had special needs, however, that never curtailed her amazing capacity to be appreciated and loved by everybody she ever met. She was a gifted musician playing the piano, organ and accordion. That talent had Joan invited to many, many venues to entertain people. Senior centers, care facilities, parties, family gatherings, etc., etc. People were always amazed how she could play without any notes and communicate with people in attendance by looking around the room and smiling to everybody there. There were times that there were people waiting for their turn to sing with Joan’s musical accompaniment!
Most recently, Joan resided in a Community Living Arrangement staffed by dedicated care givers. The staff at Merakey were Joan’s extended family. She loved them for the compassionate care they provided her and they all loved her for her kind, loving demeanor. She was frequently referred to as their “Angel”.
Visitation will be at Slabinski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthodox Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137 on Friday August 15, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, followed by a prayer service at 11:00 AM.
