Joan Dorothy Hines, born on March 10, 1935, in Au Sable Forks, NY, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Syracuse, NY. Joan lived a life characterized by devotion to her family and selflessness, often placing the needs of others above her own.
She enjoyed a fulfilling career, having been employed at Will Baumer Candle Factory for a brief period before ultimately retiring from BG Sulzle after many years. Though she completed some high school education, Joan chose to dedicate her life to raising her siblings, showcasing her nurturing spirit from an early age.
Joan had a variety of interests and hobbies that she cherished throughout her life. She was known for her love of knitting and gardening, activities that she approached with great passion. Additionally, she found joy in watching classic television shows like, The Lawrence Welk Show and Golden Girls, and she was skilled in the kitchen, particularly when preparing meals for events at her parish, St. Rose of Lima.
A dedicated pet lover, Joan shared her home with her beloved cats, Callie and Macy, who have since passed. Her warmth and kindness extended beyond her immediate family, as she was always there to support those in need, embodying a strong sense of community and love.
Joan’s pride and joy were her family. She leaves behind two daughters, Mary Ann Kalin and Kathy Hines; a son, Robert (Patty) Hines Jr.; three granddaughters, Taylor Kalin and Shannon Hines and Courtney (Gabe Nicoletti) Hines; and a great-granddaughter, Michelina Nicoletti. She is also survived by two sisters, Lou Hall and Jean Rice; along with several nieces and nephews.
Joan joins her loving husband of 52 years, Robert T. Hines, in eternal rest; as well as her parents, Clifford and Mary (Manipole) Seguin; and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Hall and Sonny Rice.
Calling hours will be held on August 28, 2025, from 4-6PM, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. The burial service will be held the following day, at 10:00 AM at North Syracuse Cemetery.
Joan Dorothy Hines will be remembered for her unwavering love, dedication, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to St. Rose of Lima Church.
