Doris “Joan” Rush Hurley, age 88, of Asheboro passed away on December 8, 2025 at the Randolph Hospice House.

Mrs. Hurley was born in Asheboro on May 19, 1937 to George and Nellie Ring Rush. Joan was formerly employed in the offices of Food Line Grocery Store and The Courier-Tribune and retired from Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Wallace Jack Hurley and brother-in-law, Jim Lindsay. Joan loved to travel, especially to Myrtle Beach.

She is survived by her son, George “Alan” Hurley and wife Phyllis of Asheboro; sister, Wanda R. Lindsay of Asheboro; nephew, Rodney Brown; niece, Katherine Lindsay; great nephews, Jude and Anderson Lindsay; and cousin, Rachel Callicutt.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville Street in Asheboro with Pastor Ben Chavis officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
