Joan Kay (Racicky) Jacobs March 26, 1960-March 7, 2025
On Friday, March 7th, Joan Jacobs suddenly passed away at home with her husband, Gary (Jake) Jacobs by her side.
Joan Kay Racicky was born on March 26, 1960 to Edward C. (Whitey) Racicky and Marcile (Tootie) Meyer Racicky in Titusvile, FL. She was the youngest of the five Racicky children. The family moved all around the country following Whitey's construction job. After Florida, the family moved to New Underwood, SD; Kingman, Ks; Warrensburg, MO; Lompoc, CA; Great Falls, MT; Sedalia, MO; Scottsboro, AL; North Augusta, SC; Dayton, OH; Urbana, IL; and then finally settling in
El Dorado, KS when Joan was in 8th grade. While in El Dorado, Whitey retired from his construction career and opened the Blue Goose Tavern along with Tootie. Being the only child still at home Joan helped her parents with operating "the Goose". While there Joan met Jake. On November 4, 1983, the couple were married. He was the love of her life. They had 3 children: Hannah Marie (1986), Christian Forrest (1989), and Jonathan Wade (1991). The family lived throughout southern Kansas: Potwin, Garden City, Kingman, and Leon.
Joan loved her family and was a very attentive mother. She spent most of her years as a stay at home mother and wife. Joan loved children and watched those of many family members and friends throughout her life. She was kind and compassionate- but was firm and always kept to a routine. She encouraged all children to read books, play games, use their imagination, build, and most importantly play outside. Joan supported and rooted for her 3 children in all their endeavors. They were who she was most proud of- only to be exceeded when the 5 grandchildren came about.
In her spare time Joan loved to read, craft, garden, watch movies, and spend time with her family. She loved for her family to all sit around the dinner table and talk, tell stories, or ask questions. She also loved when the family would play games together. She was very competitive at Monopoly- the game often ended with her and Christian making some sort of business deal. She loved to laugh, tell jokes, and startle others. She knew that laughter was good for the soul.
Joan was described by those who loved her as loyal, compassionate, and always wearing her kind smile. She was easy to talk to and she made connections with everyone. She was loved by many because she accepted everyone for who they were. Jake, the three kids, and her 5 grandchildren were her world. Her empathy for others was a trait passed along to her two granddaughters- Sophia and Pasleigh.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents and oldest sister and brother, Carolyn Fairchild and Ronnie Racicky. She is survived by her husband, her daughter Hannah (Allen) Vaughn, her sons Christian (Brandy) and Jonathan Jacobs, 5 grandchildren (Sophia, Marshall, Paisleigh, Tate, and Knox Jacobs), her sisters Ann (Fred) Vaughn and Ruby (Steve) Whitsitt, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 24 from 1-4 PM at Triple B Ranch Supply.
