Joan K Kimm

Joan K Kimm, 93, passed away in Brick NJ on January 2nd, 2025. Born in Pittstown PA in her grandmother's house, she lived in PA for a few years before moving to Elizabeth NJ with her parents Frank and Francis Verson (deceased). She attended St. Peter and Paul School until 8th grade and then attended Baton High School in Elizabeth.
Joan worked in several customer service positions and retired from Meeker Sharkey Insurance in Cranford, NJ in 1995.
Joan lived most of her life in Cranford where she was active in many organizations. She was a Girls Scout Leader for 15 years and planned many trips for the troop from camping, to touring WashingtonDC, and even a trip for the troop to a Girl Scout Camp in Bermuda. This started her love of travel and with her husband they travelled on Cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Panama Canal. They also did a driving trip circling the US over 2 months, trips to many US State Parks, and even a trip to China. After her husband passed she continued to travel and did a Choral Pilgrimage to Italy and trip to Israel with St. Helens.
Joan has always been active in the Catholic Church and has been a long time member of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. There she was a member of the Sunday Choir and the Compassion Choir. She was also a member of the Parish Life Committee and would work many events that they sponsored. The Breakfast with Santa event was one they loved and you would see her and her husband Bill helping in the kitchen and on the floor.
Joan is predeceased by her husband Bill and they were married for over 50 years.
Joan is survived by her 4 children Amy Chin married to Weldon Chin, Donna Mehringer Walsh married to Michael Walsh, Fran Acton married to John Acton, and Kathy Kimm married to Glenn Steinhandler. She has six grandchildren Becky Mehringer Valintakonis, Chris Chin, Will Acton, Cameron Chin, Elizabeth Acton, Max Steinhandler and One great Grandson Jackson Valintakonis.
The visitation will be held on Wednesday January 8th 2025 from 4pm to 8pm. Dooley's Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Ave, Westfield, NJ. A Mass will take place on Thursday January 9th, 2025 ay 10 am at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church, 1600 Rahway Ave, Westfield NJ. A livestream of the funeral Mass will be available here.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joan's name to Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey. Kathy's fundraiser in memory of Joan Kimm.
