Joan was born in Moscow, Idaho on the country farm to Lemuel Preston & Rose Townsend Hunt, she is the youngest of three children. When she was approximately one year old the family moved to Weippe, Idaho. Joan went to school at the OK school (a one room country school) & the Weippe elementary school. When Joan was approximately 10 years old her mother purchased property & when she was about 15 years old they built a house on the property.
Joan belonged to the American Legion, picked strawberries, took care of elderly people, & worked in the cook shack at the Dennison Saw mill in Weippe. While helping out the American Legion in Weippe Joan met Edward Stanton Kling. He was just discharged from the service (Army, WWII). Approximately 2 years later they were married in Lewiston, Idaho at the Bollinger Hotel on August 18, 1949. They moved to Walla Walla, WA. Lived there about one year. They moved to the Hudson Bay Dairy near Umapine, OR. Then Lowden, WA, then back to the Hudson Bay Dairy. They had a son & three daughters. In 1964 the family moved to Grangeville, ID, stayed there one year, then moved to Weippe, & stayed on the Hunt family farm for approximately 2 years, then moved back to the Hudson Bay Dairy. Two oldest children graduated at the Umapine School, then Joan & Edward moved to Warden, WA. The 2 younger daughters graduated in Warden. After spending 7 years on the Roylance Dairy, west of Warden, Ed & Joan moved to the Danny Cox dairy east of town. From there they moved to Soap Lake, WA & Edward worked on the Benedict Beef Ranch until he passed away in 1999. Joan remained in Soap Lake in the home which belonged to the Benedicts until 2011. Then she moved to Scappoose, OR to stay with Edward L. Kling (her son). Was there about 1 year, moved to Maine View Heights (located between Othello & Moses Lake, WA) to live with her daughter Elva & her husband Leo. Joan spent her remaining time at Helping Hands Adult Family Home with Maria, her husband Dimitiy Kharitonov and their family.
Joan has one son, Edward Leniel Kling living in Scappoose, OR & three daughters, A. Rosalyn Hert in Thorne Bay, AK (Prince of Wales Island), Elva Letitia Watne near Moses Lake, WA, & Nida Marie Dodge in Wallace, ID, 12 grandchildren & 22 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother, husband (Edward), twin daughters & a son. Joan will be laid to rest at the Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake, WA next to her husband, Edward.
