Joan C. Lorenz

December 30, 1935 – February 21, 2026

Joan C. Lorenz, age 90 of Arlington, OH passed away peacefully surrounded by her children after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband James Lorenz. She is the loving mother of Cathy (Ed) Carroll, Debby (Joe) Brake, Daniel (Missy) Lorenz, Bill (Jamhuri) Lorenz, Joseph(Julie) Lorenz, Elizabeth (Shawn) Murphy, Cynthia (the late Jarry) Case.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Tanya (Greg) Slaughter, Jill (Josh) Hines, Jennifer (James) McQuire, Amanda (Anthony) Sciarra, Eddie Carroll, Emily (James) Williams, Nicole (Ryan) Kunk, Jon (Ryan) Lorenz, Andrew ( Alexis) Lorenz, Imtiaz Lorenz, Jay (Kay) Lorenz, Jack (Khalia) Lorenz, Jessica Lorenz, Dylan (Catherine) Murphy, Colin Murphy, Spencer Case and 15 great grandchildren, soon to be 17. She is also the devoted sister of Phyllis Ryan, Rev. Thomas Schroer and Maribeth Mulhern all of Dayton, Ohio.

Joan spent her childhood in Dayton, OH and graduated from Julianne High School. She meet her future husband Jim at a picnic in the fall of her freshman year at the University of Dayton. They married in February 1957 and moved to Columbus. Joan and Jim raised their children in Clintonville and were active members of Immaculate Conception parish. They became members of Our Lady of Victory parish when they moved to Upper Arlington when they became empty nesters.

After raising seven children Joan spent ten years at Chemical Abstracts. During this time, she learned computer skills that enabled her to keep up with ever-changing technology. Always interested in learning something new, she enjoyed her travels to Europe, Asia and Africa where they visited their son Bill. She enjoyed these golden years with Jim.

Joan's life included caring for Jim as his health declined due to Parkinson's disease. She showed us what is meant to be a partner in sickness, and we know his quality of life was better due to the care she gave him as the disease progressed. After his death she began the last chapter of her life. She really shined as she showed us what it meant to be a gracious widow with an attitude of gratitude. She was a guiding light and compassionate ear to everyone around her. As her health declined, she continued to be an inspiration to everyone. She always lived with a strong believe in Christ. She knew he was in control and allowed him to guide her throughout her life. She leaves a wonderful legacy of love, strength and joy and will continue to inspire all knew her. She will be dearly missed.

Our special thanks to the team at Compassus Hospice. They gave her great care and enabled her to age in place. The wonderful ladies from Homewell Care Services provided the care and companionship that made Joan's last two years enjoyable years. She had her team of caregivers, service providers, neighbors and friends; she loved you all. Thank you for being part of her team.

Friends may call Sunday, March 1 from 3-5 pm at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 2 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 1559 Roxbury Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43212 where a luncheon will immediately follow the service. Private interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
