Joan Lowry of Pembroke, N.C. was born February 21, 1940 to Bernard Lowry Sr. and Lilly Mae Lowry. She was called to her heavenly home Friday, January 16, 2026.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Brant Lowry, and her daughters, Donnette Rose Lowry, and Kara Elizabeth Lowry Ballard, and brothers, Bernard (Bob) Lowry Jr. and Gary Lowry, and sister, Lillian Rose Lowry Strickland.

She is survived by her son, Joel Brent Lowry, brothers-in-law, James Garnie Lowry Sr. (Annie Pearl), Stanford Lowry (Maria), and sister-in-law, Anita Lowry, and grandson, Jordan L. Ballard, and granddaughter, Jakara Ballard, and son-in-law, Jonathan Ballard, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Joan dedicated her life serving others as an art, English, and math teacher, and librarian with the Public Schools of Robeson County for over thirty-five years. She also enjoyed devoting her life helping others and bringing enjoyment and comfort to others through her God given talents in arts and crafts, providing food, giving words of encouragement, visiting the sick and needy, promoting children, or any acts of kindness. As a member of Pembroke First United Methodist Church, she served on various committees and as chairperson of the United Methodist Women and participated with the Lumbee Elders.

She leaves a legacy of service, commitment, and love for her family, friends, church and community, the Armed Forces, and agencies that promoted and assisted others.
