Joan M. (Waski) Luongo, 85, of Agawam, MA, entered into eternal rest peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 12, 2025. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 53 years, Dr. Joseph Edward Luongo, DDS, who passed in February 2014, and her loving son, Edward Stephen Luongo, who recently passed on September 23, 2025.
Born on September 6, 1940, Joan was the cherished daughter of the late Stephen Thomas and Dorothy Alice Waski. She was raised in Port Jefferson, Long Island, NY, and graduated from Mary Immaculate Academy. Joan went on to pursue a career in nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse a role she carried out with great compassion and empathy, positively impacting countless lives throughout her career.
While attending nursing school in Long Island, Joan met the love of her life, Joseph Edward Luongo, a well respected dentist in the area. Together, they built a loving home and raised their family on Long Island before retiring to Ocala, Florida. There, they cared for their aging parents and enjoyed a peaceful retirement, surrounded by family and new friends.
After Joseph's passing, Joan relocated to Agawam, MA, to be closer to her son Eddie, daughter-in-law Rita, and granddaughter Lauren. Her bond with Eddie was especially strong she lovingly referred to him as "my everything," and he was devoted to her care and well being, visiting her daily.
Joan found joy in the simple and beautiful aspects of life. She enjoyed attending church, praying and singing hymns, crocheting blankets, nurturing her plants and flowers, taking walks, and appreciating the beauty of nature. She especially cherished time spent getting manicures and pedicures with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter, celebrating holidays with her family, socializing with friends at Quail Run in Agawam, and reflecting on her meaningful work as a nurse.
In her later years, Joan bravely faced the challenges of Parkinson's disease. She was blessed to remain in her home with the loving, dedicated care of her caregivers, Joyce and Mary, whose compassion brought immense comfort and peace.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Jackie Luongo; her devoted daughter-in-law, Rita Luongo, and granddaughter, Lauren Luongo, both of Enfield; her brother, Steven Waski of Long Island, NY; and her niece, Sandi McLaughlin.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at St. Patrick King Street Cemetery in Enfield.
