Joan Mathis age 86, of Forestdale, passed away on January 31, 2026.

She loved the LORD with all of her heart, soul, and mind. She was also known for loving her fur babies. She was there whenever they needed her. She also loved her family and church friends. To know Joan was to enjoy and love her laugh it was very contagious. She worked at UAB Sparks Clinic. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and St. Vincent's De Paul. She was a Contribution Auditor and Sunday Assistant Sacristan an supported the Angel Tree Ministry. She worked for Alabama Animal Adoption Agency for 20 years. She was loved by all who knew her.

She preceded in death by her husband, Billy O. Mathis; her parents, Mavis and George M. Tragesser.

She is survived by her brother, George E. Tragresser; sister, Ann T. Kerklin; nephews, Jonathan Rubino (Doree); Nathan Kerklin (Crystal); Michael Tragresser; great neice, Life Kerklin; great nephew, Bronner Kerklin; a dear friend, Linda Evans; and a host of Church family and friends, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation be made to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 5, 2026 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
