Mary Joan Prouty Moore, MD age 75 of Pensacola Beach, Florida formerly of Leawood, KS, died on Monday, February 13, 2023. She was born on July 10, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN and grew up in Rolla, MO. She received a BA in biology and her MD from St. Louis University. Following residency in Milwaukee, Joan served as a medical missionary in the Amazon, Returning to the US, She practiced medicine in the Kansas City area until retirement in 2012. In 1984 she married Gerald Moore and they have 4 children. Joan also promoted adoption, local and international. In her retirement she volunteered in prison ministry and taught Ignatian spirituality.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Ellen Prouty. She is survived by 4 children (Tara Moore, Megan Moore-Thompson, Mirela Green, and Michael Moore), 5 grandchildren (Mikael, Jakob, Hayley, R.J., and Courtney), 3 brothers (David Prouty, Dale Prouty and Phillip Prouty) and 1 sister (Cindy Hart).
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, March 04, from 1-2PM with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00PM located at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Graveside service at the funeral home to follow at 2:30 PM.
