Joan Moore Obituary

Joan T. Moore
Joan T. Moore, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2025. Joan was born in Coal Run, Ohio to Wilson and Kathryn Thompson, where she grew up on a large farm, one of thirteen children. She moved to Connecticut with her then-husband, Bill, and raised her five children in Fairfield, where she resided for over sixty years. As an interior designer, she ran her own business in the Fairfield County area. Later, she worked in the interiors department for United Technologies Corporation for over 21 years, retiring as a supervisor. She was honored to participate in designing the interior of the presidential helicopter.
As a long-time active member of Black Rock Church in Fairfield, Joan sang in the Choir for many years, including in the Sights and Sounds of Christmas concerts. On the Missions Conference Committee, she worked tirelessly with the team to design and build annual themed displays. She participated in numerous short-term Missions trips overseas, including to Guadeloupe, the Dominican Republic, and Niger. In addition, she served on the Finance and Property Committee and was an active member of Young at Heart.
Joan loved life. She was full of energy and fun and was always up for an adventure. Her enthusiasm was contagious to those around her. She loved living at the beach, and entertaining family and friends in her home – and everyone was always welcome. She enjoyed traveling, and traveled extensively with her fiancé, Leonard Wagner, who predeceased her. Arranging flowers for her children and grandchildren's weddings was a special joy for her. Her family will cherish many wonderful memories of Mom, Grandma, and Aunt Joan.
Joan leaves behind her beloved family, children, Teena Sorensen (Bob), Terry Moore (Darlene), Tracey Chizmadia, Will Moore (Joy), and Kellie Moore-Fryman (Tim), eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Black Rock Church Missions Fund in Joan's memory ( https://onrealm.org/blackrock/give/specialmissoffering ). A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Black Rock Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, CT, with an opportunity to greet the family immediately following.
