Joan O'Neil Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 11, 2025.
Joan O'Neil, 96, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at Smith's Mill Health Campus in New Albany, Ohio. A long-time resident of Westerville, she was born on June 25, 1929, and lived a full and generous life surrounded by family and friends.
Joan retired from Columbus Public Schools, where she took great pride in her work and in the community she served. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and loved watching golf. She enjoyed traveling, going to the casino, playing card games and bingo, working on puzzles, knitting, and reading.
A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Blendon Senior Center, Joan deeply valued fellowship, shared meals, and the friendships she made through church events, ladies teas, and Lenten services.
Above all, Joan cherished time with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose steady support and love touched every generation.
She is survived by her four children: Guy (Maylou), Marty (Becky), Paula (Steve) Lowry, and Mary (Michael) Lanese; as well as her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Red ONeil.
A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4686 East Walnut Street, Westerville, Ohio 43081 (www.splcwesterville.org), in memory of Joan O'Neil.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mount Carmel Hospice especially Tonya for their exceptional love and care during Joan's final days.
