CARSONVILLE- Joan Katherine Paling, age 86, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 in the comfort of her home, with her husband at her side.
She was born on February 5, 1939 to Aloysius and Dorothy (West) Schweihofer. Joan married Alfred John Paling on October 7, 1961 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clair, the wedding was performed by Joan's uncle, Fr. Walt.
Joan was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Sanilac. A loving farm wife, raised six kids with her loving husband. She was a strong pro-life advocate and encouraged all to respect life. Active in 4-H as cooking/baking leader she shared her love of baking. Joan taught Catechism for many years, served as Washington Township Deputy Clerk for 30 years, she also volunteered at Project Blessing during retirement after working 5 years in the bakery at Farmer Jack. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens.
Joan is survived by her husband, Alfred John Paling; children, Joe (Kim) Paling, Steve (Beth) Paling, Laura (Dale) Bell, Mark (Trisha) Paling, Mary Bokach, Tom (Jennifer) Paling and ex son-in-law, Rick Bokach; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; her sisters, Josephine Long and Annette (Robert) Burgess; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Jospeh, Francis, Dorothy, Jim, Aloysius, Ben, Mary and Dave.
Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Tuesday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Carsonville. A Rosary will be held at 7 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday at the Ave Maria Parish- St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Sanilac, with visiting at the church from 10-11 A.M. Wednesday morning. Fr. Bala Madanu will officiate and Fr. Donald J. Eppenbrock will concelebrate the mass. Interment will follow in the Washington Cemetery in Carsonville.
Memorials in memory of Joan may be made to Sanilac County Right To Life, Aspire Marlette Hospice, McKenzie Hospital or EWTN.
