Joan Vickers Paskey, age 96 of Greensburg/New Stanton, PA passed away Saturday. January 6, 2024, after suffering from a long battle of Dementia. She passed away peacefully by her loving daughter Jacqueline Shasko and grandson Santé Shasko whom she loved and adored. Joan was born June 8, 1927, in Manchester, England, where she was a dancer in the troops and married her husband John C. Paskey (an army veteran and recipient of the purple heart) of many years, a true love story, he cherished her. She had a son Joseph Sante Paskey, who passed away at the age of 53 from heart failure, who she dearly missed and loved. Joan was one tough cookie who survived many health challenges. Her strength continued as she devoted herself to her grandson Santé for 23 years, that’s what kept her going. They share the same birthday and were each other's best friend, side by side with fun, laughs, and memories that will never be forgotten (he was her favorite). He also became a caregiver with his mom, Joan’s daughter, they were the dynamic trio. Joan resided with them for many years, as they both were committed to her and deeply loved her as it was a joy to care for her.
We are grateful to the Bridge’s Hospice Team, all the aides and nurses for all the love and care they gave her. Especially Krisitina, her special aide and her Nurse Trish for her long time of care, love, and loyal friendship. In addition, her buddy Mel, who cared for her as well with so much love and compassion. She truly was a special lady, wife, mother, friend, and grandmother. She loved gardening, flowers, birds, baking, decorating, dancing, music, and the little dog Rico. She was one of a kind and as she would say, “old soldiers never die, they only fade away.”
She is survived by her daughter Jacqueline C. Shasko and grandson Santé M. Shasko and little puppy Roman. They will cherish every moment they spent with her witty personality, dancing, singing, her laughter, smile, hugs, kisses, but most of all the amazing mother and best friend she was to Jacqueline and Santé.
Thank you to all of our friends for their help, love, and support. A memorial service will be held in her honor Monday, January 15, 2024, from 6-9 PM at the family’s residence.
