Joan Marie (Cordisco) Picciano, 82, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on February 16, 2023. She is predeceased by her husband Louis Picciano Jr.; parents Arthur and Helen; and former husband Carlo Cordisco. She is survived by her children Yvonne (Ally) Visram; Frank Cordisco (Joy Burrell), grandchildren Zayn Visram and Zamir Visram; sister Cyndi Sutliff; brother Gary Sutliff; stepmother Liv Sutliff; special friend Albert Nocciolino; nieces, nephews and special girlfriends that have been lifelong friends. Joan was the first female Barber in Binghamton, opening her own salon called "Hair" in 1969, at the Holiday Inn Downtown Binghamton, which became one of the first unisex salons that she worked in for 30+ years. Joan was a woman of many talents and interests. She loved collecting beautiful antiques and art, decorating her home and the homes of friends and their families, and supporting the Arts in all forms. As a passionate animal lover, she proudly served on the board of the Ross Park Zoo for a number of years. Joan was an extraordinary woman, the pillar of her family, who strived to keep everyone together. She cherished her grandchildren, doting on them always, even when they grew up and towered above her. She was a friend to everyone, and would do anything and everything for you, if you were hers. She loved to entertain and had a talent for making everyone feel welcome, whether she knew you well or not. She welcomed her friends, her family, and all the misfits in the same way-with a mischievous smile, wise remark, and open arms. She was an incredible cook, making the kitchen a place of life and laughter while she cooked Sunday Italian Dinners, making it a happy place for everyone over the years. Her warmth, quick wit and abounding love will be missed by all those who had the good fortune of calling her a FRIEND. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers for the ongoing love and support they provided. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 4pm to 6pm at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, and/or the Visram Foundation at www.visramfoundation.com.

Aunt I think is the word that best describes what Joan(Joanie) was to me. Although we hadn´t been close in some time as life will carry us all on separate courses, I will very much miss aunt Joanie. My fondest memories go back as far as babysitting me and my brothers as children. But most specifically memory serves me as seeing her in the kitchen at her house on Christmas and having us over for trick or treating on Halloween, uncle Louie always in his favorite chair by the tv. But even more maybe seeing her at the Salon always with my sister Yvonne and the wonderful staff where we would all go for the best hair cuts and her smiling when we came in. She was always kind to me and I thank her for that always. May the last steps along her path be lighter and carefree, and may she find peace in the clearing.
I will miss you aunt Joanie
