Joan Elder Regal

Joan Elder Regal passed away on January 1, 2025. She was born on May 9, 1936 in Burlington NC to Elizabeth Miller Elder and James P Elder. Joan was married to Perry Whitmore Regal of Emporia, Va and they had two children, a son, Perry Whitmore Regal Jr and a daughter, Wendy Elizabeth Regal.
After graduating from Walter M Williams High School in Burlington, she attended Elon College and received a degree in Business Education. She then moved to the Washington DC area and worked for several years for U.S Guaranty and Trust Company. She next located to Raleigh which remained her home for life. In addition to being a homemaker and raising her children, she worked for the General Assembly of North Carolina for a number of years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed catering small parties. She was gifted artistically and enjoyed decorating and developing many crafts.
In her last years she was blessed to receive the benefits of assisted living at Hillcrest Raleigh where she was deeply loved and cared for and in return adored the attentive and thoughtful staff. Her daughter, Wendy, is especially grateful for their many kindnesses in making her Mother's extended stay so happy.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Elder Moore, a brother-in-law, Grover W Moore and her husband, Perry W. Regal. Surviving family members include her son, Whit, of Banner Elk NC, and daughter, Wendy, of Raleigh; a brother, Dr. James P Elder Jr of Chapel Hill and a sister, Lora Elder Jones (Dr Charles) of Pawley's Island SC; a close cousin, Sandra Elder Harper of Burlington NC; nieces Julia Moore Bullock (Al) of Raleigh and Susan Moore Uhlin (Robert) of Charlotte; a nephew Grover W, Moore of Burlington; a great nephew, Grover "G" David Moore (Kasey) of Smyths Grove, Kentucky, and a great niece, Melanie Payton Moore of Hickory NC; twin nephews, Robert James Uhlin and William Moore Uhlin of Charlotte.
Joan will be laid to rest in the family plot at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington NC following a memorial service that will be held at 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington.
