BEEKMAN – Joan F. Strieder, 87, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of Ossining, died on March 6, 2024 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Tarrytown on December 26, 1936, Joan was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Donohue) Denman. She retired in 1992 from IBM in East Fishkill after 18 years of service in quality control.
Joan enjoyed attending activities at the Beekman Senior Center, especially playing Bingo and Pokeno. More than anything, she loved her family and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
On December 31, 1973 in Stormville, Joan married William Robert Strieder who predeceased her in 2022 after 49 years of marriage. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Nancy Weaver and Rick, Janice Garrett McLean and Brian, Judith Branch and Mike, Keith Brokaw and Parris, and Sandra Higham and Jeffrey; her grandchildren, Christopher and Lauren Katchuk, Brandon Garrett, Joshua Hanzi, Nicole and Christian Ghimbos, Ashley Taper, Valen Atencio, Lindsey and Aaron Cottingham, Keith and Courtney Brokaw, Savannah Brokaw, Alexandra Brokaw, Jeffrey Higham Jr., William Robert Higham and Casey John Higham; eleven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Joyce Fatato and her partner Joseph Vasell and Judith Toich; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joan was also predeceased by her brother, Jed Denman.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11 am at the funeral home followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
