Joan Summers (nee Purkey) was called home to be with the Lord on July 9th, 2025, at the age of 86. She passed into eternal glory peacefully while surrounded by her one & only child, son Phil Summers, & daughter-in-law, Amanda.
She was a life-long devout member of the LCMS Lutheran church, where she loved singing in the choir and volunteering her time as long as she was able. Joan began working downtown Chicago at the age of 20, and retired when she was 80, wishing she could have worked longer! Her consistent hard-working & independent nature were to be admired.
Joan is survived also by her beloved grandchildren… Nolan, Ava and Sarah Joy Summers and preceded in death by parents Alonzo & Josephine (Osterman) Purkey; sister Melva (Ray) Carlson; brothers Jerry (Ursula) Purkey & Bud (Connie) Purkey.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church ,1500 S Briggs St, Lockport, Illinois on Saturday, August 9th, 2025 at 11:00 am.
She is now at peace in the arms of her Savior.
