Joan Delano Van Allen, of Newtown Square, passed away on November 12, 2024, at age 85, surrounded by family. Born in Narberth to Edgar and Frances Delano, Joan is survived by her stepchildren Jill Nestor (Ed), Mimi Tadeo, and Stephen Van Allen (Leslie Henry). She is also survived by her sister Anita Delano Biondi, nephew Stephen Delano, and nieces Frances Biondi, Beth Delano (John George), and Julie Biondi. Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband John F. Van Allen Jr., brother Francis X. Delano, and stepson John F. Van Allen III.
Joan attended St. Katharine’s High School for girls where she was on the basketball team. She was an avid sports fan her whole life and followed the Phillies, Eagles, and The U.S. Naval Academy with great passion. In her later years she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: sipping Bloody Marys with her husband Jack, walking with her dogs, shopping at Giant and knowing everyone’s name, and praying the rosary nightly for those who had gone before her.
A service honoring Joan will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 10:00am, at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA.
