Joan M. VanderPloeg, age 95 of Cascade passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, October 3, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents Lauren and Helen Voight, sister and brother-in-law Beverly and John Willets.
Joan went to work after high school at Consumers Gravel where she earned the nickname "Gravel Gertie". She then worked at Jewel Tea until starting a family. She later went back to work at Dunn, Dunn & Schouten. She finished her working career retiring from Yamaha Corporation Band & Orchestra Musical Division. She spent her spare time volunteering for the Forest Hills Athletic Boosters and Blodgett Hospital Coffee Shop. Joan was a former president of the Ada Congregational Church Women's Fellowship and numerous other church affiliated groups and events.
She is survived by her sons Jim Jr. (Jackie), and Doug (Shellie); grandchildren Chad (Tina)VanderPloeg; great-granddaughter Louisa, Madison (Marco) Cortez; great-grandson Thiago, and Quinn Edwards. Joan is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held at 11am on Saturday October 26,2024 at Ada Congregational Church located at 6330 Ada Dr. SE, Ada, MI 4930. Visitation will be held hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to Corewell Health Hospice or Ada Congregational Church.
