Joanellen Barnes Wagner, known affectionately as Joan to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at her home in
Palm Harbor, Florida. Born on July 19, 1939, in
Brooklyn, New York, Joan's life was a testament to love, laughter, and unwavering faith.
Joan's journey through life was marked by a contagious sense of humor and a heart that embraced everyone she met. She was a beacon of joy in her community, always ready with a joke or a kind word. Her laughter was a familiar and comforting sound to those who knew her, often accompanied by a mischievous twinkle in her eye that hinted at the next bit of fun she had in store.
She shared a beautiful life with her dear husband, Walter Wagner, now deceased, and together they created a family that was her pride and joy. Joan's legacy is carried on by her loving children: Susan Pribil and her husband David, Robert Wagner, Joannie Gifford and her husband Bill, and she held dear the memory of her son, Walter, and his wife, Colleen, both of whom predeceased her. Other important family members include Valerie Flores and Saeb Enchasi. Joan's grandchildren-Mallory, Jennifer, Ellen, Andrew, Ryland, and Lucas-were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her great-grandchildren-Cooper, Ciana, Cade, Roman, and Josephine-were her special delights, filling her days with laughter and wonder.
Joan's caring spirit extended beyond her family. As a home health aide in Highland Mills, New York, and Pinellas County, Florida, she brought comfort and companionship to many who were in need. Her patients often felt they had gained an additional family member in Joan, as she treated each one with the compassion and dignity they deserved.
Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of her existence. Joan was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Dunedin, where she could be found volunteering at food kitchens and St. Vincent De Paul. She lived out her belief that to love one's neighbor was to serve them, and she did so with a generous heart.
Joan's passion for life was evident in her love for her family, her friends, and her furry companions. She was a dedicated volunteer at Canine Estates, where rescue dogs found a loving hand and a warm smile in her presence. Her dedication to these animals was just another facet of her boundless capacity to give.
Joan's love for her family shone brightest during the holidays, which were always celebrated at her home, filled with warmth, delicious food, and endless laughter. Summers were synonymous with the beach, a tradition that evolved from crowded bungalows at the Jersey shore and the Hamptons to relaxing days at Lido Beach.
Her friends were her extended family, and she nurtured these relationships with the same love and humor she bestowed upon her kin. A trip to the flea market was never just a trip-it was an escapade, an opportunity to find joy in the simple things with the people she cherished.
To describe Joan is to speak of love, humor, and faith. She lived a life that was as full as it was fulfilling, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her laughter, her kindness, and her unwavering spirit will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will be treasured forever. Joan has left us for a heavenly abode, but her light continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved.
