JoAnn Catherine Borowitz, 86, or Gonzales, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025. JoAnn was born June 28, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Marguerite Allen Gerbic. She grew up in Granite City, IL and attended Brown University. She worked as a private secretary in a St. Louis law firm and later as a floor manager for Foley's Department Store in Houston, TX. JoAnn was an accomplished soloist with seven years of professional voice coaching. She married Phillip M. Borowitz on July 25, 1959 in Granite City, Il. She had been a member of St. James Catholic Church.
JoAnn is survived by her husband of 65 years, Phillip M. Borowitz, daughter, Tracey Renee Twardowski (Richard), grandchildren, Serrina Wyngarden (Nicholas), Lauren Prasatik (Justin), great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Willa, Greta, Read, Connor, and Kaylee. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Phillip Joseph Borowitz, sister, Joyce Gerbic, brothers, Donald Green, and Joseph Gerbic, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 9 am to 9:30 am Thursday, May 1, 2025 in St. James Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 in the church with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10 am with Fr. Jason Martini celebrating the mass. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001 or charity of one's choice. Friends may leave their condolences to the family by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com.
