Joann W. (Dickerson) Everett of Dover passed away January 3, 2026.
She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Ida (Workman) Dickerson, and was born in
Milford, Delaware on August 10, 1935.
Joann was a high school cheer leader. She majored in Criminal Justice at Delaware Technical Community College. She worked nearly 29 years for the Delaware Motor Vehicle Department. During that time the public referred to Mrs. Everett as "Ms. Motor V". Mrs. Everett worked in various positions, starting with the Motor Vehicle Department as a cashier located at the former Dover Inspection Lane on State St. in Dover. She was promoted to Registration Supervisor and Driver Improvement Officer and Acting Inspection Lane Manager. She had a reputation of being firm, but extremely fair. On special occasions, she represented the Motor Vehicle Department in court cases.
Mrs. Everett was also involved with community work. She was on the Board of Assessment for the Town of Wyoming, the Board of Coordinators for the Town of Wyoming Peach Festival, was a former member of the Dover Lions Club, voluntary Coast Guard Auxiliary member, lifetime member of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary, where she held a position of Sunshine chairperson and public relation representative, and she was coordinator of the Retired Delaware Motor Vehicle Employees from the Dover Offices Christmas party.
She enjoyed landscaping, gardening, yard sales, crabbing, fishing, and was an avid history buff. One of the highlights of her life was when she attended a relative's wedding in Ireland. She was a people person and always tried to help keep the peace. She was a member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church.
Joann loved the internet and email and kept in touch with friends in and out of the country. She was a native of Delaware, born in Milford Memorial Hospital,
Milford, Delaware. She lived in Delaware all her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ida and Oscar Dickerson, from Harrington, Delaware, her brother John (Jack) Dickerson, her paternal grandparents, Elmer and Addie Dickerson of Milton, Delaware, her maternal grandparents, John and Ryla Workman of Harrington, Delaware, and a husband T. Marvel Everett of Clayton, Delaware.
She is survived by children, Russel J. Jarrell and his wife Joy, of
Dover, Delaware, and Kimberly Jarrell, of Smyrna, Delaware; three grandsons, Louis Calderon III, Trevor Calderon, and Austin Murtha and his wife Tricia Murtha; great grandchildren Bianca Murtha, Riley Murtha, Austin Murtha II, Olivia Calderon, and Roman Calderon; sister Bonnie Cullen and her husband Frank Cullen, of Easton, Pennsylvania. and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 12 noon at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, Delaware. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be private.
