JoAnn Hamblin Harris

JoAnn Harris, 80, of Roy passed away March 9th of causes incident to age and after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born on Feb. 14 1946, to David Hamblin and Emma Thomas Hamblin in Ogden, UT, and raised on a small farm in Riverdale. She was the second oldest of eight children and was a big help to her Mother as her siblings came along.

She loved living in Riverdale and had many friends there. She graduated from Weber High in 1964 and then began her schooling to become a beautician. She married Stephen Harris in June 1968, and opened her own salon where she worked hard to help put him through college.

After he graduated they moved to Oregon where Steve taught school. She loved living in Oregon and that is where they adopted their first son, Matthew, in 1973. Eventually they moved back to Ogden and then lived in Clinton for several years. In 1978 bought their home in Roy. That was also the year they adopted their second son Andy.

In 1988 Steve was offered a position in England where they lived for three years. She adapted to the English experience, loved the rural location they lived in, and served as Relief Society President of the Oxford Ward for two years. They came back to their home in Roy and lived there since then.

Jo was a very faithful person; she loved reading and studying the scriptures and attending the Temple often. Dementia is such a terrible affliction and it became part of her life about fifteen years ago and slowly took control of her mind. We believe she is now free of that and is enjoying the company of her parents, several siblings, Matthew, and others. She is survived by her husband Steve, her sister Gwen, her brother Bob, and daughter-in-law Yvonne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Michael, David, Jed, and sisters Karen and Janet, and by her son Matthew. The family thanks and appreciates the care provided by all of the staff at The Terrace at Mt Ogden where she lived for two and a half years. Also the hospice care provided by Bristol Hospice, and especially her nurse Sashta who provided excellent care with compassion and love for years, and to Joslyn who always had Jo looking so beautiful.

Services for Jo will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 10 AM at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W in Roy, UT. A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 6 PM - 8 PM at Myers Mortuary in Roy and prior to the Service from 9 AM - 9:45 AM.
