Joann Herring, 65 of Burnside, KY, formerly of Leslie County, passed away on February 14, 2025, at the Lake Cumberland Medical Center in Somerset, Kentucky. Born on February 14, 1960, in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of the late Ford and Faye Hacker Bowling.
Joann lived a life marked by deep love for her family and a humble, quiet spirit that touched all who knew her.
Joann began her career as a respiratory aide at the Mary Breckinridge Hospital in Hyden. She served as a secretary for the Leslie County Sheriff's Office under the administration of her father, Ford, and spent time at the Leslie County Jail as a cook, where she fed many with care. She later found her place at Walmart, where she retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.
Family was at the heart of Joann's life, and she had a special affection for children, particularly babies. Her warm and nurturing nature extended to her pets, which she loved dearly.
Surviving are Joann's sisters, Wanda Powers (Lloyd) of Hyden, KY, Kathy Napier (Bill) of Burnside, KY, and Debbie Turner and Dianna Mosley, both of Hyden, KY, along with her beloved children she raised and loved as her own, Gabe and Lynzie Morgan.. She also shared close bonds with her sisters and brothers-in-law including Hallie Bowling of Hyden, KY, Dianne and Glenn Sweeny of Lena, MS, Debbie and Ray Copeland of Louisville, MS, and Scotty Butler of Louisville, MS. Also surviving are her step father in law Guy Johnson of Lena MS, as well a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other cherished family and dear friends.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Ford and Faye Hacker Bowling, her husband Donald Herring, brothers Billy and Paul Bowling, sister Linda Bowling, brothers-in-law Doug Turner and Frankie Herring, as well as step-daughter Heather Herring, and niece Janina Tiernan.
The visitation for Joann will be held at Rockhouse Pentecostal Church in Hyden, KY, on Friday evening February 21, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Rockhouse Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ted Couch officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bowling - Napier Cemetery at Hyden, KY with Ben Turner, Seth Mosley, Brandon Mills, Greg Barrett, Tyler Collett, Jonathon Maggard, Josh Barger and Scotty Hoskins serving as pallbearers.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home
