Dubuque, Iowa
JoAnn M. Kaiser, 84, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, passed away at Eagle Pointe Place, Dubuque, IA, on Friday, May 10, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2024, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will take place after the service in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville. There will be a parish wake service at 3:45 p.m. before the visitation. A second visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home of Cuba City, WI is serving the family.
JoAnn was born on August 15, 1939, in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, to Harold and Veronica (Crowley) Duffy. She was united in marriage to her first husband, David Pettera, on June 27, 1959, at St. John's Nepomuc, in Prairie Du Chien. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1993. She was then united in marriage to Robert Kaiser on October 24, 1997, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, in Dickeyville. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2018.
JoAnn graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Prairie Du Chien before getting married to David. Shortly after they raised their family of seven children. She enjoyed working the hot lunch at Holy Ghost School, and her work at the Dickeyville Grotto. JoAnn was a faithful member of the Holy Ghost Parish and sang in the choir with her husband David. Some of her favorite hobbies were playing cards with friends at Valentine's, bowling at Sunset, boating on the Mississippi, and cheering on the Badgers. She was also proud of her lifetime YMCA membership. Above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
JoAnn is survived by her seven children, Mark (Lisa) Pettera, of Prarie Du Chien, Jackie (Gary) Gantenbein, of Dickeyville, Renee Duncan, of Dubuque, Angel (Brent) Hutchins, of Stewartville, MN, Chris Pettera, of Harper Farrey, IA, Shelly (Mike) Brandel, of Dubuque, and David (Tracie) Pettera, of Peosta, IA; a sister, Dianne (Art) Cady, of Madison; a sister-in-law, Mary Duffy; her husband David's sister, Sharee (Larry) Severson; her second husband Robert's children, Mike (Carol) Kaiser, Steve Kaiser, Tom (Lisa) Kaiser, Dave Kaiser, and Chris (Shaun) Wagner; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, and Robert's many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; parents; a grandson, William Duncan III; her brother, William Duffy; and David's sisters, Joyce (Neil) Kramer, and Mary Jo (Fred) Moore.
