JoAnn McClenathan Obituary

JoAnn McClenathan, 86, of Washington, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, in the Concordia Hospice of Washington Donnell House, surrounded by family. She was born August 23, 1939, in Washington, a daughter of the late Vincent James and Josephine Barrett Camps. JoAnn was a 1957 graduate of Trinity High School where she was a majorette, continuing to Washington Hospital School of Radiology for two years before starting her family. During her many years of homemaking and raising her children, she was involved in many Church programs. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, where she taught adult classes in the Sunday school. She was also a certified lay speaker and spent many years as an active member of Christian Outreach. Later, she attended Lighthouse Community Church. She eventually went back to work at Washington Hospital for 21 years before retiring, then doing volunteer work and preaching at Christian Outreach for the last 23 years. JoAnn was a devoted Christian, exceptional cook and baker and she loved to send cards to everyone for birthdays, "get well" and "thinking of you". On October 4, 1958, she married the late Fred C. "Sam" McClenathan. They were married 58 years before his parting on July 7, 2016. JoAnn is survived by her six children: Jody (Mark) Bonus, Samuel (Sandy) McClenathan, James (Lisa Maffio) McClenathan, Beth (Don) Wall, Michael (Robin) McClenathan and Scott McClenathan; grandchildren: Melia Bonus, Cassandra (Travis) Ware, Megan (Brian) Hoy, Emily (Zachary) Rugg, Levi (Ashley) McClenathan, Cory (Emily) McClenathan, Ryan McClenathan, Jacob (Grace) McClenathan, James (Ensley) Meyer, Jared (Ashley) Yocum, Jesse Yocum, Jordan (Kimmy) Yocum, McAger Wall, Taylor Wall, Matthew McClenathan and Zachary McClenathan; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two sisters, Earla Brownlee and Mary Aldine Zullo; and a brother, Vincent James Camps. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. All other services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Christian Outreach. Online condolences may be expressed at www.piattandbarnhillfh.com.
