JoAnn Caughron Sample, 88, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, left this earth on December 22, 2025 for her heavenly home. She was born on November 3, 1937 in St, Louis, Missouri, the only daughter of Virgil and Frances Martin Caughron.
JoAnn was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and a friend to everyone she met. She believed in the importance of family and her faith in Christ defined her life. She was a prayer warrior and would storm the gates of heaven for her family and friends. Her career included serving as an accounting tech, typist, secretary, printer, and making fishing rods at a company in Harrison, Arkansas. During her younger years she babysat in her home for many school teachers. JoAnn was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice and sang at so many events. She loved praising God for his faithfulness throughout her life.
JoAnn served God by making baskets of goodies for widows. She extended grace, mercy and love to those she met along her journey. She was a youth pastor and served on several committees in the United Methodist Church. She maintained friendships with her Merry Marrieds Sunday School class for over 50 years.
Those left to mourn are her daughters Robin Hicks (Charles), Toni Dornseif (Dan), and Linda Sample. Grandchildren include: Christopher Sample (Carlen), Sarah Ponder (Kelly), Alexis Roepe (Kevin), Charles R. Hicks III, and Daniel Dornseif (Chris Sledd). Her great-grandchildren include: Daleigh Cairns, Ashlynn Sample, Lillian Roepe and Hattie Roepe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Mick, Jack and Steven, her husband Donald Joe, her daughter Tracey Kay and her son Mark Owen.
A private family service will be held in St. Louis at a later date.
A special thank you to Marilyn and Rob Brewer, Steve and Sherry Johnson, and Allen and Michelle Teel who helped care for JoJo after moving to Jonesboro. Your kindness, generosity and prayers never went unnoticed. Our deepest thanks to each of you.
